Utah Jazz pull away from the Dallas Mavericks for their sixth in a row.

Utah Jazz pull away in the fourth quarter and beat the Dallas Mavericks 104-92.

Paul Millsap played well again in his second start putting up 25-9 with 4 blocks.

Picture 2

Kirilenko is continuing to play his best basketball in five years and finished with 13-8-3-4.

D-Will showed why he will be playing in the all star game with 18 points and 15 assists. Williams also added seven rebounds. In all, the Jazz had six players in double figures and held a Dallas team which has been averaging 113 points a game to 16 points in the fourth quarter. The Jazz have now won their sixth straight game and tenth game in there last eleven. Seven of those wins have come over playoff teams (Dallas twice, Miami, Cleveland, San Antonio, Phoenix, and Portland). With the win the Jazz pulled within a half game of third place in the west. They also won the season series with Dallas. Up next the Jazz play Portland who they have beaten twice this season.

I was also looking at Denver’s schedule for the month of February and if the Jazz continue to win they have a good shot at over taking Denver by the end of the month. Denver plays the Lakers twice, both at LA, Phoenix, at Utah, Dallas, San Antonio, at Cleveland, and at Boston.

Paul Millsap Gone Wild

I took a business partner from Australia to the game last night. It was his first ever basketball game. I spent the first quarter explaining the rules and at some point during the third quarter, He said ” That number 24 guy is really good is he the Jazz’ best player”?  I replied “Tonight, he is”.

112a33e53400233988ce5a10f14a00cd-getty-90043418mm_kings_jazz_005Paul Millsap scored a career high with 32 points and missed a triple double by 3 assists. To say that he was chomping at the bit was an understatement. He also hit on 10-11 free throws. If you missed the game you missed an amazing night by Millsap. I know it was against the Kings but the point guards weren’t at their best last night so at times the offense was dead. Really there were stretches when the offense was lying on the floor.

Kevin Martin broke out of his slump just liked I hoped he wouldn’t

Tyreke Evans showed us again why he will be the rookie of the year by getting to the line 15 times. Stupid.

Ronnie Price struggled last night so much so that Sloan finished of the Game with Gaines at the point who did ok, not good, but ok. I think 13 shots 24 minutes would be forcing a little bit.He did have some on ball steals that got the Jazz some easy buckets.

Andrei Kirilenko played circa 20o4 here is his box line.
Picture 1
Other than his free throw shooting, I  would take that stat line anytime.

I don’t know if they aired the Hot Rod Ceremony on T.V. but it was awesome and I think that Hot Rod was truly touched. On the Jumbotron they had his former partners give a little statement as well as John Stockton. I recorded the ceremony on my flip cam and should have it up by Monday if you missed it.

Great Game  Great Result.

Utah Jazz Vs. Sacramento Kings without Boozer and All-star Deron Williams

BREAKING NEWS BOOZER OUT FOR TONIGHT

Some of the greatest Utah Jazz  memories I have are  listening to  Hot Rod Hundley doing the play by play. Here is one that I wrote about  last year and is still in my top ten all time Utah Jazz Moments. If you were ever in the MTC you should get a kick out of this.

Here are some of Hot Rod’s best quotes.

images

We  could be without Boozer, Deron Williams is officially out (funeral). Official word will probably come in shoot around this morning around lunch time.

The Sacramento Kings probably have the Rookie of the year on their team in Tyreke Evans. If you remember the last time we played them he torched us and for 32-7 but in the losing effort Deron had 29-15 it was  actually a fun game to watch.

Ronnie Price, Sundiata Gaines and hopefully Wesley Matthews step up to the challenge tonight and play solid lock down D on Evans.

Expect tonight to be a fast paced game but low scoring I say both teams under 100.

Without Deron and Boozer, obviously, the bench will HAVE to step up.

Kings Key Team Stats Jazz
101.4 Points scored 101.8
105.2 Points allowed 97.4

1340 Defensive Rebounds 1397
1883 Total Rebounds 1840
1.4 Assist/Turnover Ratio 1.8
22.9 Fouls Per Game 22.2

Tonight will most likely be the Jazz’ 8th different starting lineup of the season. So far this season we have collectively missed 112 game with 110 of them coming from injury, Harpring counts for 28 of those.

The Jazz have led at one point in every game this season meaning that they haven’t lost wire to wire yet. Against Portland they had their sixth win from wire to wire although it got sketchy in the 3rd quarter.

The Utah Jazz are first in the NBA in Assist per game and shooting percentage @ 49.% and have shot over 61% in their last two games. I don’t think that this trend will continue with Boozer and Deron out, However expect Millsap and AK to have big nights tonight. I think they will both have DD’s

Some obvious but little known stats.

The Utah Jazz are 12-2 when they have less than 12 turnovers.

They are 8-1 when Wesley Matthews hits 2+ three pointers.

They are undefeated in the Green Jerseys.

The Jazz are 19-3 when Boozer has 20-10, if he does not play we need Millsap to make that up.

I think Kevin Martin is the Key player of the Night. He missed the first game this year due to a wrist injury but has historically given the Jazz troubles especially with the three 15-30 in the past six games while averaging 27 points. In his last three games he has just had 5 points a game and shot 3-23 let’s hope tonight is not the night that he gets his shot back.

MY Prediction

Utah Jazz 98- Sacramento Kings 95 in a buckle-up game.

A Bunch of Other Stuff then the Utah Jazz Vs. Portland Trailblazers (Preview)

I don’t mean to take the SOTUA lightly, but I will be in class tomorrow night and would be watching the Utah Jazz play the Portland Trailblazers if I was not.

The game is on NBATV and hopefully we have Cheryl Miller as our analyst, she is so good on the eyes, especially when she is pissed.

If you have ever wanted to see Greg Oden naked, now is your chance. Link to story, not pictures, sorry guys. Can it get any lower than this for Greg Oden, well it could be if he were Paul Shirley.

Paul Shirley will probably get fired from ESPN for his open letter to the nation of Haiti that is getting a ton of criticism. Hey maybe I can get a job at ESPN and write some ridiculous article about 200,ooo people dying. What an idiot. Not only that he doesn’t play in the NBA.

Anyway the guys over at SOTUA have created a drinking game that I think would be fun to play during a Jazz game. I don’t drink alcohol but could mix up some Sunny D, Purple Stuff, Soda, and Vitamin water to join the fun.

So here is your drinking game list for tomorrow night’s Jazz Blazers Game. All mentions deserve one Drink.

CBA NEWS which is not looking good for the NBA players right now. “There’s going to be a lockout,’’ the owner said. “There’s not even a doubt in my mind about that. Billy’s not going to make a deal like that. Teams are already saving up money for a strike.’’

The Blazers will be without Brandon Roy and should win this game which will get us one step closer to Deron shaving, but more importantly keep the the pressure on the rest of the west.  Here is the current stat breakdown of the teams.

Jazz Key Team Stats Trail Blazers
101.8 Points scored 97.6
97.4 Points allowed 94.3
.488 FG% own .462
.452 FG% opposition .458
.359 3PT% own .359
.357 3PT% opposition .349
435 Offensive Rebounds 497
1361 Defensive Rebounds 1366
1796 Total Rebounds 1863
1.8 Assist/Turnover Ratio 1.7
22.0 Fouls Per Game

Remember a few weeks ago when we played Denver without Melo and Billups, this game has that whole vibe to it. I think are going to win but just have that feeling that the Blazers will get up for this game. The Blazers are coming of a horrific loss in which NO finished the game on a 10-1 run to win in the last few seconds.Meanwhile the Jazz are coming of a rousing victory over the Suns in which they trailed by 17 late in the third. I really have no idea how to predict this game the books have the Jazz by two which is basically a pick’em game.

We win if we get 25 or more assists.

We win if Boozer gets 20 plus points.

We win if Deron Williams is on the floor.

Jazz win 106-93 in a close game that the Jazz pull away from in the beginning of the fourth quarter.

For those of you still looking for Greg Oden pics search “Greg Oden Pics” or  “The Huffington Post”, rumor is they have some. I haven’t seen them, I just heard about them. Really I heard they have them over there.

AK, Matthews and the most quiet 20/20 game I have ever seen.

90043366MM_SUNS_JAZZ_016With 2:38 left in the third quarter Channing Frye hit a three pointer to put the Suns up by 17 points. Yes I said 17 Points.

Then the Jazz rattled of 12 straight points to bring the game to within five going into the fourth quarter.

I have been a Jazz fans my entire life and can’t remember a time when rookies contributed so much to our success. Gaines and Matthews have been unbelievable and we have to give KOC and his team credit for picking up some guys that seemed like they may never make it in the NBA.

Matthews had a series of back to back plays when he stole the ball and went the length of the court for an almost one, following that up by a clutch three.

Andrei Kirilenko is playing out of his mind. If he gets the minutes he is circa 2004 easy. Its the first time since 2004 that he has had 2 25+ point games in a three game span. He has been phenomenal and well worth the money he is getting paid.

Carlos Boozer had 20 rebounds and 21 points shooting 7/10 from the field and a perfect 7/7 from the free throw line.

Amare Stoudemire only had 5 rebounds, obviously the effort wasn’t there from him tonight. Is he really worth 20 million a year, uhhhhhhh nope.

Leftovers-

The Utah Jazz moved to the 4th spot last night after their win and the Portland loss. I know we are still three months away but think of all the games in the first half that we should have won. Where would we be, probably the two spot.

ESPN’s  mock draft Calculator is up in all its glory and the Jazz are consistently getting the 9th spot. I have clicked it more than 50 times and only three times did we move out of the 9th spot. We need some help from New York who have lost two in a row and got pooped on by Dallas the other night, like Bill Simmons said I’m glad I covered my Dallas by 49.5 bet.

Jazz are ranked number one in Hollingers Per Diem rankings.

Blog Updates and Jazz Versus Suns Round 1

We are working on a Forum for fans and Jazz followers to discuss Jazz topics and share in their love for the Utah Jazz. Since we are an independent website and not tied to an affiliate or group site like Blogin, SB, or ESPN we have to work on some different ways to make some of those extra things work with our provider (WP). I have also been in Vegas for a few days and unable to get posts up. Thanks for all the followers out there and spread the word about the Utah Jazz Podcast and the website.

JAZZ VS. SUNS
Rumors have it that the suns are looking to trade Amare for cap space before the deadline. I don’t how much truth their is to this but they have dropped like a rock after starting on fire at the beginning of the season.

On the Other hand there is no team in the NBA playing better than the Utah Jazz, on both ends of the floor at this current moment of the season.

The Jazz have won 6 of their last seven and their only loss was at Denver when the Nuggets shot 49 free throws.
Boozer is back up to 20 and 10 and the Utah Jazz are riding their two (should be all-stars) Deron and Carlos. Both of them will not get in impossible.

Jazz win 118 112 in a Barn Burner.

“I’m not shaving my beard, until we win five in a row.” D. Williams

The Utah Jazz sweep the San Antonio Spurs for the first time in 16 years (1993-1994).

Kirilenko played like a sixteen million dollar man putting up 26-8 hitting on 11-15 shots and pretty much put on a shooting clinic against the Spurs.

Boozer had a quick start that led the Jazz to an early lead and played like a freaking man down the streatch to complete the season sweep of the Spurs with 31-13.

Millsap had a great game off the bench and Deron had his first back to back double double in the month of January.

While there is still much concern about this Jazz team, it seems they have figured out the Spurs curse.  Now if we could only figure out those pesky Timberwolves.

With a two day break before playing the New Jersey Nets on Saturday the Jazz should finish this week 2-0.

The Jazz have 40 games left after tonight with 17 of those games coming against teams with a less than .500 record. I hope this is a good thing. They don’t have a back to back game until Feb 9/10  so they should be able to run 6 of 7 or 5 of 7 games.

Who was the last team to go on a 25-0 run and lose a game, I don’t know, but they have to be really pissed.

Stats of the night-11 turnovers, 9 blocks, and the Jazz shot 28-32 from the free throw line.

The Jazz held the Spurs to 39.3% shooting and forced 16 turnovers. Tony Parker’s +/- was -26 last night, is that possible?
