Watching the game last night I knew that Oklahoma City was an up and coming team that a lot of teams should watch out for.  It's interesting that the Jazz probably even knew that and they still let them get away with a win.  In the words of Dennis Green, "They were NOT who we thought they were." The Thunder showed some amazing talent last night, especially, you got it.... Kevin Durant!  This guy will be playing in the NBA for a very long time and will win some championships along the way.  He is only 21 years old and is that guy on the court who must be guarded at all times. Some things that I noticed in this game that were disappointing were number one, the amount of turnovers from the Jazz. One-fourth of their points came off of our lazy passes and failure to execute.  When it comes down to it, this game is very easy to dissect just by looking at the box scores.
  • Deron only 10 points.
  • 2 players scoring our only bench points (Millsap, Kirilenko)
  • Thunder doubled up Jazz in blocked shots 6-3
  • Points in the paint benefited the  Jazz 54-30.
Now why, if we score 24 more points than them in the paint, would we lose?  Transition defense.  The Jazz were very lackluster in getting back on the defensive end.  One play in particular where Ronnie Brewer was receiving a pass from Deron Williams at the top of the key and was lazy in doing so.  Kevin Durant takes it from him and posterizes him on the other end with a dunk that displayed his crazy athleticism. In short, the Jazz don't seem to have that sense of urgency that they used to have to win games.  They expect to go out there and try semi hard and win the game.  In this league, especially with the up and coming talent everywhere, that will not happen.  You have to execute every play with perfection and have confidence that you can play day in and day out with out making mistakes and being ultra competitive. I hope in the future the Jazz will start to realize their real potential and improve the things they know they can work better on.  It will be very interesting to see how this team will change when our three injured players return.  Namely, Miles, Korver, and Price.  In the meantime, others have to step up and prove they're worthy to be in the NBA.      Scott Mckell
